Advanced Technology

Cone Beam CT

Our practice utilizes state-of-the-art, small volume cone-beam CT (computed tomography) technology that provides highly accurate, 3-D radiographic images for the diagnosis, planning and treatment of endodontic disease. This allows three-dimensional visualization of teeth, bone, sinuses and surrounding structures with minimal radiation to the patient, enabling a level of anatomical accuracy and patient care not possible with 2-D technologies (regular dental x-rays). With the addition of cone-beam CT technology, our practice is committed to providing innovative, high-quality, patient care.

Surgical Operating Microscopes

The introduction of the surgical operating microscope has revolutionized the field of Endodontics and Endodontic Microsurgery. We have invested in the very best quality surgical microscopes, by Carl Zeiss, that provide unparalleled magnification and illumination for our non-surgical and surgical endodontic procedures. Simply put, operating microscopes make your teeth and gums appear bigger and brighter. Magnification and focused light improves visibility of tiny structures and evaluation of fine details. For example, detection and evaluation of cracks, locating nerve spaces, and working within the root canal of the tooth is greatly improved with a dental microscope.

Ultrasonic instruments are very fine, ultra precise instruments that offer tremendous benefit during your treatment.  They can effectively remove traumatic calcifications inside the tooth allowing an absolute minimal reduction in tooth structure. Additionally, they can effectively contribute to the cleaning and disinfection of the root canal spaces inside the tooth.

Digital Radiography

Durham Endodontics carefully chooses which and when radiographs (x-rays) are taken. There are many guidelines that we follow. Radiographs allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes. Radiographs enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs.

Digital radiographs (x-rays) offer a 50-90% reduction in radiation exposure to patients, when compared to traditional film-based x-rays. Images of your teeth and mouth are captured on a small digital sensor, which is relayed to a computer. The images are then sent to the computer monitor for immediate evaluation; this happens in seconds. And because images can be rapidly obtained and easily enlarged chairside, this represents an excellent opportunity for you to see and understand the nature of your condition and dental health status.

Digital imaging allows us to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to your dentist and other health care providers, or insurance companies.

Our office stays current and meets or exceeds all industry and regulatory requirements pertaining to surface and instrument disinfection and sterilization protocols. This includes regular testing of steriliztion equipment to ensure efficacy.

Digital Chairside Education

Seeing is believing. Viewing images of your teeth, watching digital dental education videos that highlight procedures and dental conditions, and discussing conditions and treatments specific to you on our iPads are all important ways for you to understand and make decisions about your health.
